Vancouver, Canada, December 6, 2023 – Quectel Wireless Solutions, a global IoT solutions provider, today announces that TMC has named Quectel’s Product Security Transparency Program as a recipient of the 2023 INTERNET TELEPHONY Cyber Security Excellence Award presented by INTERNET TELEPHONY magazine.

The Product Security Transparency Program demonstrates Quectel’s commitment to implementing robust security measures at every stage of the product lifecycle. In the first stage of this program, Quectel has engaged cybersecurity consultancy Finite State to rigorously test Quectel’s IoT modules. At the outset, the penetration testing and analysis primarily centered on the most crucial Quectel cellular modules available in the U.S.

“We’re delighted our Product Security Transparency Program has been recognized by INTERNET TELEPHONY magazine,” said Norbert Muhrer, President and CSO, Quectel Wireless Solutions. “We have built upon our existing security testing processes and integrated even deeper testing into first and third-party code. Our collaboration with Finite State has resulted in metrics that place Quectel in the top 10% of all the connected products analyzed by the firm. Our multi-faced approach to security means Quectel modules are designed to lead the way establishing new industry best practices and standards while staying ahead of the evolving security landscape.”

These modules constitute roughly 70 percent of all North American IoT modules shipped over the past 18 months. The initial progress report provided to Quectel reveals that the security rating of its modules, as determined by Finite State’s risk assessment, commenced on a strong note when testing commenced earlier this year. Subsequently, this rating improved rapidly as Quectel incorporated Finite State’s recommendations. The report ultimately underlined a significant improvement in Quectel’s security posture with both the initial and current scores far exceeding the industry average score of 98.

In addition to penetration testing of its key modules, Quectel announced the industry-first initiative of releasing of Software Bill of Materials (SBOM) and Vulnerability Exploitability Exchange (VEX) documents for its IoT modules. As the only IoT manufacturer to do this, Quectel will be making these resources available through to Quectel customers via the Quectel website.

“Congratulations to Quectel for being honored with an INTERNET TELEPHONY Cybersecurity Excellence Award for innovation in IP communications. The Quectel Product Security Transparency Program has demonstrated outstanding quality and has delivered exceptional, measurable, tangible results for its users,” stated Rich Tehrani, CEO, TMC.
